In the process of laser welding machine, assist gas is essential. So which gas can be used as assist gas? And how do they contribute to the welding effect?
With the protection of assist gas, the welding effect is better, which can prevent the workpiece from being oxidized during the welding process, and at the same time protect the lens from metal vapor pollution and liquid droplet sputtering.
The common assist gases for laser welding machines are Nitrogen and Argon. Generally Hydrogen is not used as a common gas due to its high cost. The cost of Nitrogen is the most affordable, but it is not applicable in individual cases, so it depends on the actual material processing effect. The cost of Argon is more expensive than nitrogen, its protective effect is better, and the surface of the weldment is smoother. You can choose from these two commonly used gases according to your actual application industry and welding materials.
